Re-Up with Reann Browne

Twenty-three-year-old Reann Browne is the owner of The Re-Up which is located at Shop 7c The Glebe Market, Glebe Land, St. George.

The former student of Springer Memorial Secondary School who has a mantra that if the plan doesn’t work, change the plan but never change the goal said that she decided to become an entrepreneur due to her love for makeup artistry.

" It all started when I fell in love with makeup artistry. As a full-time student at Barbados Community College (BCC) I started makeup freelancing and teaching one on one makeup application classes to friends. Occasionally, I would sell makeup application tools to my students, which then led to the idea to invest and expand my side hustle. At the request of my students, I started my cosmetic line selling local handmade makeup products namely lipsticks, lip-glosses, and makeup finishing sprays.

Despite this, I had been working part-time jobs in the customer service and retail industry from the age of 17 years old. This is where I learned everything, that I know about running a successful retail business. I used my income from my after-school retail job and freelance makeup and took a leap of faith and became a full-time entrepreneur. I created a business page on Instagram @shopthereup and I sourced suppliers to purchase women’s clothing and accessories-bags, sunglasses, and jewelry) to resell to my customers,” she said.

Two days ago the former Business Studies student at the Barbados Community College and graduate of Supervisory Management at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology celebrated her two-year milestone in her business. She said the past two years have been the best two years of her life.

“The journey of entrepreneurship has been the best two years of my life. Through all the ups and downs there is no greater feeling than seeing success after risking it all, believing in yourself, and watching your hard work pay off,” she said.

Browne who has a very bubbly personality said that she retails trendy male and female clothing at affordable prices as well as offers makeup applications in her store. She noted that one thing entrepreneurship has taught her is that there can be no growth without consistency.

However, she noted that persons come to her business for her specialty items which are available for between $10-20 BDS.

“One thing that entrepreneurship has taught me is there can be no growth without consistency. Persons come to my business for our wide selection of $10 headbands and our wide selection of $20 belts. My business is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am-5 pm,” she said.
