Organix Snacks providing healthy solutions to Barbadians
Updated: Oct 7, 2022
Roderick Sargeant is the Senior Vice President of Operations at Organix Snacks (Barbados). The company, which is located in Wildey, St Michael and offers vegan, gluten-free, organic and non-genetically modified foods was started in July 2022.
Why did Sargeant decide that he wanted to start a business two months ago?

He said after seeing the rise of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Barbados, he decided his company would offer healthier snacking options to aid Barbados in curbing its high NCD rate.
“I saw a dire need to offer healthier snacking alternatives to the junk food available on the market. After extensive research, Organix Snacks (Barbados) aligned itself with key manufacturers within Barbados and across the globe in an effort to provide healthier snacks for everyone,” he said.
The former student of Ellerslie Secondary School who holds a degree in Theology from Harvesters Christian University said that since starting his business he has been receiving positive responses from the public who are enjoying their bestsellers- Hippeas (organic chickpea puffs), Giggles (a fully plant-based alternative to Skittles) or The Good Crisp (a product similar to Pringles minus the additives).
“Since starting the business the response from the public has been overwhelming. Within our first week of operation, we sold out several of our products. Most customers were in shock about how great our brands taste considering that they are healthier,” he said.
Sargeant added that due to Government’s investment in healthier alternatives in schools, there has been keen interest from persons seeking to purchase healthier alternatives for themselves and their children. The surge from the general public into the business also aligns with the goals that the company has to align itself with local manufacturers of healthy products.
“To date, we have already met with several local manufacturers of healthy products, and we shall be rolling out their brands over the coming weeks. We also are seeking to work with high foot traffic retailers in the holistic health sector as a part of our distribution networks moving forward,” he said.
The Senior Vice President of Organix Snacks (Barbados) said one of the challenges his company has faced is uncertain and fluctuating freight costs however, his company is looking for other alternatives to streamline those costs.
Despite this challenge, Sargeant remains committed to the goal of providing healthy alternatives for Barbadians and is hoping to partner with other governmental and non-governmental agencies and health-driven businesses and organizations to promote healthy eating in Barbados.
He encouraged Barbadians to familiarize themselves with the healthy food options provided by his company by heading to their website www.organixbarbados.com or on Instagram @organixbarbados. (Write Right PR Services)
