Chloe Chase redefining Cosmetology

Chloe Chase is a female barber and cosmetologist who has been in the beauty industry for over sixteen years.

The mother of two who operates her salon Maximum Beauty Unisex Salon from McClean’s Gap, Silver Sands, Christ Church said she decided to begin her own business thirteen years ago after she completed her diploma in Cosmetology at the then Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.

“I studied at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in 2006. I did my diploma in Cosmetology and then went on to do a job attachment at Mags Barbering and Beauty Salon, which was a barbershop. That is where I developed my barber skills. I was employed there for three years. When I left there, I decided to start acquiring equipment to own my own business. I was always passionate about being a cosmetologist and a barber, so I decided to start my own salon and barbershop. I realized a lot of barbers are males and I am a female barber,” she said. Chase does many intricate designs for her clients. She said that her journey as a qualified cosmetologist, barber, and business owner has been a rewarding one as she currently offers barbering classes at her salon in Silver Sands.

“The experience has been great. I had always planned to teach barbering classes because I think that females are limiting themselves to just doing hairdressing and I think that they should also know how to do barbering since females are also cutting their hair along with males and children, so it is a useful skill to have as a cosmetologist,” she said.

Chase said that she is able to manage being a business owner and a mother to her two children both of whom are excelling. Her son is an aspiring chef studying at the Samuel Jackman Prescod

Polytechnic as well as a footballer, and her daughter is seeking to follow in her mother’s footsteps as she wants to become a cosmetologist and assist her mother in her business.

“My daughter is following in my footsteps as she is studying to be a cosmetologist as well at Springer Memorial. She is in fifth form, and I am helping her along as well so she can further her studies. It makes me feel very proud because as a parent you always want your child to follow in your footsteps and carry on your business. It is a real joy for me to see that even though she is a teenager she is interested in carrying on the legacy,” she said.

The owner of Maximum Beauty Unisex Salon said that her salon is following all of the COVID-19 protocols and that they have implemented an appointment system in order for her staff to be able to sanitize after each customer.

“Persons should come to Maximum Beauty Unisex Salon because I offer excellent service and we also follow the protocols where we sanitize and conduct temperature checks upon arrival. Everyone wears a mask, both clients and staff. I wear goggles when I work as well. We have also provided a COVID-19 register with the names, addresses, and contact numbers at our establishment as it would assist with contact tracing if needed,” she said.

The female barber encouraged young persons to set goals for themselves and be relentless in the pursuit of those goals as she reflected on some of the goals, she made almost seven years ago when she was featured in the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme’s programme ‘Minding Your Business’.

“I like to set goals and go forward to make them a reality and that is something I would like to encourage young people to do. You do not want to be at the same point you were at ten years ago. You want to be setting goals and I am happy to proclaim that I have started my barbering classes,” she said. (Write Right PR Services)
